Smeg is an Italian manufacturer best known for their home appliances. The company was founded by Vittorio Bertazzoni. Smeg was founded in 1948 as an enamelling and metalworking company. Today, Smeg is unmissable as a manufacturer of household appliances. In the 1950s, Smeg started working on cookers in addition to metalworking. In 1956, the first "Elisabeth" cooker was released. In the 1960s, Smeg expanded to include a washing machine and dishwasher category. In 1971, the company started producing built-in kitchen appliances such as built-in hobs and ovens. Smeg stands for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla. The company is truly a family business. For instance, Vittorio's son Roberto Bertazzoni was responsible for Smeg's international expansion. Today, the company is run by the third generation namely Vittorio's grandson, who still carries the same name. In 2020, the company had around 2,600 employees and a turnover of around 720 million euros. Smeg also has several collaborations to their name. In 2016, for instance, they had a collaboration with Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. In 2018, Smeg designed 90 unique FAB28 refrigerators for Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday. Each fridge represents 1 year since Mickey Mouse's debut.
