Freezer - Replace thermostat

Want to replace your freezer's thermostat? This step-by-step plan will get it done in no time!

What do you need?

Always first:

  • Unplug the power cord.
  • Tip: When disassembling the old part, take regular pictures, so you can easily see how to reassemble the new part.


Replacing the thermostat of the freezer:

1. Loosen the button on the thermostat.
The thermostat is directly connected to the thermostat knob. Loosen the thermostat knob by pushing it in. To loosen the knob, use a screwdriver if necessary. After the knob is loose, a small nut will appear. Loosen this nut as well.

2. Remove the housing of the thermostat.
If necessary, remove the lampshade first by loosening the screws. In some cases you can leave the lampshade on. Remove the housing of the thermostat. Loosen the remaining screws holding the housing as well.

3. Remove the thermostat from the housing.
Remove the thermostat from the housing by first loosening the wiring with pliers. Pull the long end all the way out.

4. Place the new thermostat in the correct location.
Unroll the long wire all the way and put it in the freezer where the old end just came out.

5. Place the new thermostat back into the housing.
Place the thermostat in the correct spot in the housing. Attach the wiring and tighten the nut. Also place the overall housing back in the right place. Then retighten the screws on the housing, the lampshade and the thermostat knob. Well done, your freezer's thermostat is now replaced!
