Refrigerator - icing
When ice is found in the refrigerator, it often indicates a problem with the seal. Ice buildup can cause the refrigerator to be unable to perform its function of cooling properly. There is no need to call for a technician right away, as many causes are easy to spot.
Fortunately, there are a number of possible causes of icing that can be checked and it is simple to fix. Unplug the appliance and defrost it first. Clean the refrigerator thoroughly and make sure the ice is removed if there is any icing. A possible tool for this is a defrost spray. There may be several causes for ice formation in the refrigerator.
1. Check the set temperature.
Make sure that the temperature in the refrigerator is not lower than 3 degrees Celsius. If a refrigerator is set too cold, ice formation is more likely to occur. The advice is to have the refrigerator between 3 and 4 degrees Celsius. The temperature depends on how often the door is opened. Keep it closed as much as possible.
2. Check the drain.
Check that the drain is not blocked. If the refrigerator suddenly freezes too much, it may be because the drain is blocked. This will prevent the refrigerator from draining the moisture properly.
3. Check the door rubber.
If cold air is coming through the refrigerator door even though the door is closed, there may be cracks or tears in the rubber. This may also be the case if the refrigerator door does not close properly. A consequence of this can be ice formation in the refrigerator. Check that the door rubber is still in good condition.
